For some reason I was thinking about that yardstick where it asks if… - what was that again...?

| any kind of book...? If you haven't read any of Chuck Palahniuk's work, well, he is incredibly -- I'd recc Invisible Monsters + Survivor in general, but if you're looking for horror, he's got Lullaby, Diary, and Haunted.
Clown Girl by Monica Drake is excellent as well. There is humour.
alternately, if you care to, there's the lj comm http://community.livejournal.com/disturbingbooks/profile -- of which there is a plethora of wonderfully disturbing books posted. a lot of them are horror. | (Reply) (Thread) |
| Any kind of book where there's a scene where two girls talk to each other not about boys or romance, yes. Is that the case in any of the ones you're reccing? | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| ah, misinterpreted your initial post.
Hmm... there is in Invisible Monsters, but then again, IM is just fucking weird. And there's some in Clown Girl, too... also fucking weird. | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| I'm pretty sure Uzumaki does at some point! Fairly nonsensical horror story about how spirals poison everything; I liked but it felt slow despite its short length.
... Mangaka's /other/ nonsensical horror's not quite as engaging and developed, and definitely doesn't have substantial, if any female conversation. Art is /really/ nice if you like anything you see in the first, though

| Well, I've just been rereading the comic Bone, which although there are more male than female main characters heavily features a teenage girl and her badass grandmother, who talk plenty and not once about guys. It is also quite funny, and it's this funky cartooniness-mixed-with-serious-business-high-fantasy thing. And pretty awesome. | (Reply) (Thread) |
| I keep forgetting to read that! I had a giant Bone compilation in my living room for months and I only read the first ten pages or so!
I'll ask mom where it is at some point. | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
